High Court to take strict action on Smart City Doon

The Nainital High Court has taken a tough stand on illegal construction works in Doon Valley without the formation of a master plan and tourism development board. The High Court, while hearing a PIL filed regarding smart city, has asked the central government and the state government how much budget has been spent so far to build a smart city.

What is the plan for development under the master plan?


The Nainital High Court has also asked the Central Government and the State Government to tell about the smart city as to what plan has been made to develop Doon Valley under the Master Plan.The High Court has directed to submit a detailed affidavit in this matter. The matter will be heard on December 8. Along with this, the Tourism Secretary will also have to appear in court on this day.

Delhi resident Akash Vashisht has filed a public interest litigation in this case in the High Court. The matter came up for hearing before a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Rakesh Thapliyal.

It has been said in this petition that even after the government’s notification of 1989, the Uttarakhand government has neither prepared a tourism development plan of tourism activities nor a master plan for land use. Along with this, it has also been said in the petition that Doon Valley is turning into concrete, which is affecting rivers, water sources and forests.
